Saudi Arabia and France Expand Economic Partnership Beyond Oil Industry

Date:

The economic ties between Saudi Arabia and France are undergoing a transformation as the Kingdom pushes to diversify its economy away from oil dependency. This shift is evident in the trade dynamics between the two nations, with 2025 marking a notable year. France’s exports to Saudi Arabia reached nearly $4.5 billion, while Saudi imports to France were around $3.7 billion. This development signifies a departure from previous trends where Saudi Arabia typically enjoyed a trade surplus in its dealings with France.

This change in trade balance is largely attributed to France’s decreased imports of oil and petroleum products from Saudi Arabia. With France diversifying its energy sources, the demand for Saudi oil diminished, especially given the relatively low oil prices in 2025 that further lowered the value of energy imports. As a result, France’s reliance on Saudi energy has lessened, contributing to the current trade figures.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s appetite for French products has broadened, spanning multiple sectors. The Kingdom’s imports now include a wide array of French goods, such as aerospace technology, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. This growing interest in diverse French products aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a strategic plan aimed at reducing its economic reliance on oil revenues while fostering the development of new industries.

France, recognizing the potential within Saudi Arabia’s evolving economy, is increasingly seeking to tap into opportunities across the Kingdom’s expanding non-oil sectors. French companies are actively exploring investments and partnerships, eager to participate in the Kingdom’s economic transformation as it unfolds.
