A collaborative effort aimed at bolstering food security in Yemen is underway, with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) joining forces with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. This partnership will channel $10 million into a project designed to support the most vulnerable communities in Yemen while enhancing their resilience in the long term.
Each partner will contribute $5 million to the initiative, which will be executed by the United Nations World Food Programme. The project will focus on several governorates, including Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij. By facilitating conditional cash transfers, the program aims to improve access to food, rebuild productive infrastructure, and assist families in moving from emergency food aid to a more self-sufficient state.
Beyond immediate food aid, the initiative will also include vocational training and support for local governance. These efforts are intended to reinforce the sustainable management of community resources, helping local authorities to govern more effectively. By investing in these areas, the project seeks to equip communities with the tools necessary for long-term stability and growth.
This agreement is a part of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian outreach through KSrelief. Since its inception in 2015, the organization has implemented over 4,400 aid projects, totaling more than $8.5 billion, across 113 countries. The ongoing efforts in Yemen reflect a continued commitment to global humanitarian assistance and development.
