China Urges Equitable Trade Conditions to Enhance Economic Ties with UK

Date:

In a bid to enhance mutual cooperation and strengthen their bilateral ties, China has urged the United Kingdom to establish a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises operating within its borders. This appeal was made during the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing, where Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his hope that the UK would facilitate favorable conditions for Chinese companies, thereby supporting the ongoing development of the relationship between the two nations.

Wang Yi highlighted the resumption of exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, which have gained momentum following recent high-level engagements between China and the UK. He underscored the significance of maintaining dialogue, broadening practical cooperation, and upholding multilateralism, particularly in the face of increasing global uncertainties. The dialogue underscored the pivotal roles both China and the UK play as influential international actors in tackling global challenges and fostering a more balanced system of global governance.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterated Britain’s dedication to sustaining stable and constructive relations with China. She emphasized the growing importance of enhanced dialogue and cooperation as both countries navigate a complex international landscape. Cooper also reaffirmed the UK’s established stance on the Taiwan issue, advocating continued engagement with China while managing differences through dialogue.

Economic and trade collaboration took center stage during the discussions, with both nations exploring potential opportunities in burgeoning sectors such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. Cooper’s itinerary included visits to Beijing and Shenzhen, aiming to bolster cooperation in these fields.

Analysts interpret the dialogue as an effort by both governments to translate recent political agreements into tangible outcomes, all while ensuring ongoing communication on global issues and economic collaboration.
