Snow and Ice to Disrupt Travel Across UK as Cold Spell Continues

Date:

Travel disruption is expected across the UK as snow and ice spread over large parts of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with wintry conditions forecast to continue into the weekend.
Weather warnings for snow and ice are in place across multiple regions, with northern Scotland facing the most severe conditions. Heavy snowfall has already affected parts of the Highlands and north-east Scotland, and further accumulation is expected, particularly on higher ground. Some areas could see significant snow build-up, increasing the risk of stranded vehicles and power disruptions.
Across England and Wales, snow is forecast to move south-eastwards, affecting major cities and transport corridors. Icy conditions are also expected in parts of the south-west, making roads, pavements and rail services hazardous during the morning hours.
Authorities have urged people to allow extra time for journeys and to prepare for delays on road, bus and rail networks. The prolonged cold spell is expected to persist into the weekend and early next week, with temperatures remaining well below seasonal averages and further snow showers possible.
