Problem: You Can’t Text and Watch Reels. Solution: Instagram’s PiP Mode.

Date:

For years, Instagram users have faced a common problem: you’re engrossed in a hilarious Reel, but a message comes in that needs a reply. You have to choose—pause the video or ignore your friend. Now, Instagram is testing the solution: Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode.

This new feature, currently in a trial phase, directly solves this multitasking dilemma. It allows the Reel you’re watching to shrink into a small, floating window when you switch to another app. The video continues to play, so you can type out a reply, check an email, or browse the web without interruption.

This “problem-solution” approach is a massive quality-of-life improvement. For creators, it solves the problem of viewer drop-off caused by external distractions. By providing this simple yet effective solution, Instagram is aiming to make its video experience smoother and more user-centric.

In a similar vein, the platform has also solved another long-standing problem with the launch of its native iPad app. The issue of a poorly scaled phone app on a tablet is now a thing of the past, replaced by a solution that offers a clean, optimized, and enjoyable user interface.
