Murray Highlights Draper’s Return as Boost for Tennis Economy

Date:

In anticipation of the upcoming Wimbledon season, Andy Murray has expressed his admiration for fellow British tennis player Jack Draper, commending his fitness recovery and exceptional level of play. Draper, who has faced a series of injuries, is working towards a full comeback with Murray providing guidance in an advisory coaching capacity. Despite dropping to 113th in the world rankings due to knee, elbow, and shoulder issues, Draper has been actively training at the LTA’s National Tennis Centre.

Murray, a seasoned player himself, has praised Draper’s talent and the rapid progress he has observed in the young athlete. He noted Draper’s ability to quickly absorb lessons and develop confidence as he returns to more consistent training. Draper’s game, according to Murray, is surprisingly comprehensive and impressive, underscoring his potential as he seeks to regain his competitive edge.

As part of his return to the professional circuit, Draper is set to participate in the Eastbourne tournament. The primary goal is to regain match rhythm and enhance his endurance across various competitions. Murray, while supportive, has clarified that his involvement in Draper’s coaching will remain flexible due to his family commitments. Any formalized coaching relationship would need to accommodate his personal obligations alongside professional duties.

Elsewhere, British wildcard Arthur Fery achieved a significant milestone by reaching his first ATP quarter-final at Queen’s Club, triumphing over Adrian Mannarino in straight sets. Meanwhile, top seed Alex de Minaur demonstrated his strong form with a decisive victory against Dennis Shapovalov, advancing further in the tournament.
